MARCUS FOSTER releases debut ep Tumble down

ONE TO WATCH

By James York, 27 January 2011

Marcus Foster is a talent - just one listen to his latest track, Shadows of the City, confirms him as one to watch for the future. Whilst Foster's style has folk/blues origins, there's a haunting introduction that's actually reminiscent of a Jeff Buckley number. His growling, passionate voice also has a melancholic air that is sure to capture some imaginations - almost a young Mick Jagger. Shadows of the City is the type of track that possesses a wonderfully audible sequence.

Having enjoyed glittering popularity in 2010 on an unsigned rollercoster, and a MySpace page hit count that would crash servers, Marcus was finally pinned down and signed by Communion/Geffen records in Christmas 2010. His debut EP is finally ready for release. Entitled Tumble Down, and featuring four tracks rich with languor and melancholic life, it sounds like the work of someone who has been doing this for years.

Marcus Foster was born in London and has been playing the piano since he was six years old. At the relatively tender age of 24 years old, he still has a lot in the tank. By his early teens, he had discovered his artist father's Bob Dylan LP's and never looked back. Word of mouth has turned to a contract. Deservedly so.

We have him down as one to watch - we can only hope the rest of his first EP as a signed artist is as strong.
