James Apollo - The Violins/ born lucky
By Sam Chapman, 17 Feb 2011
That hint of cabaret doesn't get much of an outing these days. The soundtrack to drinking houses across the Mid-West has been left to brood under years of dust and spit. That is until James Apollo rocked up with his American troubadour mystery. The Violins is the first weary return journey from his forthcoming compilation, Born Lucky, that immediately paints a sepia picture of lost love and whiskey.
Haunting vocals, saddening violin and a procession of wind instruments harness the thought of a chastened man surrounded by buxom concubines strutting around the local saloon, shaking their frilly dresses to the beat of this mysterious voice of the Spaghetti Western.
The Violins is indeed poetic, smouldering and a journey across America, complete with El Mariachi climax. Expect big things from James Apollo as he celebrates six years in music with the release of Born Lucky on 11 April 2011. Expect a career spanning compendium of his works.
